Day 551 – Nepal 🇳🇵 Kathmandu, Marathon 156 — WHAT A DAY — Today has to be in the top 10 of all time brilliant experiences. So much to say about a 6 hour marathon with fantastic people. One of my slowest runs to date – and all because we were all having so much fun. — After the week of hiking in the mountains, the plane crash and cancelled flight, then the tragic monsoon and flooding, and now this. What an extraordinary time. — The official Leech Marathon was cancelled last night due to flooding in the city, plus the fact the weather forecast said it would rain solidly for 24 hours smack bang in the middle of the marathon. Like so many times on this journey – it’s amazing how things turn out though. From a cancelled marathon to one of the best yet. Fortunately a group of about 10 still turned up to support me despite everything. With the help of Jimi (who’s organised most of the last week), they created a new route, organised 2 cars, water and food to support the potentially very wet run. — The highlight of today was the film crew improvising to get all the shots we wanted for the documentary. Chris along with support members and loads of gear hung to the back of jeeps in various positions to film the run, the town and the overall mad experience of running through Nepal. — Those that came out to run, drive, help Chris, and get get stuck in – THANK YOU. — Initially we ran out of the city into the mountains to look down on Kathmandu. Brilliant sights of multi coloured roofs and prayer flags everywhere. The road was wet, but amazingly it only threatened to rain once or twice. We eventually arrived in a small suburb and completed 10 ish loops while avoiding angry dogs to get the distance up. The weather was perfect – although somehow I’ve managed to burn my shoulders. Classic altitude tanning mistake. — To finish we ran through the main square in the heart of the city. By coincidence a huge Nepalese flag was handed to me as i crossed the finish line. The people made today great. — #run #runningtheworld196 #runtheworld #runningtheworld #runner #runnerguy #fitguy #fitness #asia #prostatecanceruk #prostatecancer #running #travel #marathon #worldmarathons #nepal

Day 624 – Solomon Islands 🇸🇧 Honiara to Nauru 🇳🇷 Menen — The least visited country in the world. — Nauru must invite you to the island. It’s such a small place with a tiny community and so i can see why access should be monitored more closely. Arriving into the island i was greeted with big smiles and a friendly welcome from a chap called Neil. He consults for the only TV channel on the island. A quick interview and he was on his way and i waited for my taxi. — A while later, no taxi arrived, but with help from some incredibly friendly locals, they had called my hotel and sent someone to come get me. The hotel i am staying in is a place called Menen. Old, a little shabby but with the best community feel. I was informed by Veton (my legend of assistant, and the guy who manages my life), that these guys were ‘excited to meet me, and would do anything to make my stay special.’ Between the time this was arranged and now, there had been some mis communication and the host hotel manager had left. It turns out, nobody was expecting me, nobody knew who i was and i was left stood in the lobby rather confused. I’m pleased and relieved to say that a kind lady called Pina came to my rescue. The interim manager listened to what i had to say, apologise and has since waited on me hand and foot to help sort tomorrows run. A bazar turn of events but i already love this island. — With the day turning to night i was given a lift by the adorable Ima. She drove me to the shop to get a SIM card and some data. That makes the island sound built up and modern. It’s the opposite. I’m sure this network shop is the most visited place on the island. On the way back, we stopped to chat with some boys playing Aussie rules football nearby. The place is full of community spirit. Another run in the morning. — DONATION LINK – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/runningtheworld (also in my bio) — @prostatecancerUK @justgiving @strava @dosportlive @redbull @prodirectrunning @bbc @bbcnews @sky @natgeo @natgeotravel — #runnerguy #nickbutter #runningtheworld196 #runningtheworld #traveller #inspiration #menshealth #dosportlive #running #run #runner #travel #adventure #pacificocean #guy #globe
